Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System Installation - 2022 Jeep Cherokee- Video
Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the Demco stay-in-play supplemental braking system, on a 2022 Jeep Cherokee. Now this is available in two different options. You can get the wired version, which gives you an LED indicator light that goes on the towed vehicle and that way you can tell when it's braking, but you can also pick it up with the wireless coach link. And that way you have a monitor system that you can mount on the dash of your RV, and be able to see it, and also hear it with its alarm when you're actually braking and your vehicle's braking. Hey everybody, how's it going Today, we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the Blue Ox Patriot 3 supplemental braking system here on a 2021 Jeep Cherokee. So a supplemental braking system is gonna be required by law in nearly every state for a vehicle over a certain weight. That weight does vary by state, but our Jeep Cherokee here is gonna exceed those in pretty much every state so it's safe to say this is gonna be a requirement for your flat tow setup. In addition to the supplemental braking system, you'll need a base plate, tow bar, wiring harness, and safety cables. But the actual job of the supplemental braking system is rather simple. It's gonna be applying the brakes here in our vehicle so we're not putting so much stress and strain on our motor home. more

So a supplemental braking system here is going to be required by law in almost every state for a towed vehicle behind the motorhome. Now, essentially what the system is going to do in its most basic form is when we apply the brakes in our motorhome, it's going to also apply the brakes in our towed vehicle, helping us slow down. That way, we're not pushing it against the motorhome and we can come to an effective stop much sooner. So each braking system, is going to be a little bit different in its design. more

Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Installation - 2018 Jeep Cherokee- Video
Today on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit. To help us with our installation, we're gonna be using the Buyers Dual Fuse Holder for ATM micro fuses.Whenever you're flat towing your Jeep, you wanna know what's going on behind you. Well, that's why our supplemental braking systems have monitor life and they let us know what's going on, but those are usually read off of the cylinder pushing on the brake pedal. It doesn't exactly tell you where the brake pedal is positioned. So if it's not installed correctly, the brace could be applied all the time causing a lot of damage down the line.But by using this Roadmaster Stop Light Switch, we're gonna be able to see where our brake pedal's actually positioned, rather than the braking system position. That way we know exactly if our brakes are being applied, if something may have fell on the brake pedal while we're towing our Jeep, or any case we know exactly what's going on.Our Stop Light Switch is gonna mount right onto our brake arm and it's gonna have a little plunger that's gonna activate or deactivate depending on how hard we push on our brake pedal. more

Here's what the Patriot II looks like installed inside of our Cherokee. Now the reason you're gonna need a braking system like the Patriot II is that if you're flat towing your Cherokee behind your motor home, you're gonna need a way to help slow the Cherokee down to alleviate some of the wear and tear on your motor home's brakes and also make it a lot safer and quicker for you to stop.In many places, supplemental braking systems are required by law when you're flat towing, and this will take care of both of those requirements.Now, what sets the Patriot II apart from other braking systems out there One, it's not a permanent installation inside your vehicle. The nice thing about the air force one though, is that it's a truly proportional air system or a truly proportionally braking system, because it's working off the air pressure coming from the RV. Your kit's gonna come with a tank, air lines and T fittings that you attach to your RV's air brake system.One of the great things about the air force on is, once it's installed, it's completely maintenance free. more

So if you're looking for a braking system to flat tow your Cherokee, our Stay-IN-Play DUO is gonna be a great option. It's gonna be a one time installation with nothing to do after the fact that it's in, and it's gonna give us that truly proportional braking. What that means is it's gonna apply the brakes at the same intensity as that we're applying them to our motor home that it's not gonna either drag our motor home back, and it's not gonna have our Cherokee pushing our motor home down the road. So a slight push on the pedal is gonna mean a slight push on the pedal on our Cherokee. Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Roadmaster Brake Light Relay Kit for towed vehicles. Part number is RM-88400.Now, we're going to give you a really good example of exactly what the brake relay is going to do in this application. Before installation of the relay, let's say we turn on our left turn signal at a stoplight to make a left turn, but we also need to apply our brakes. You can see how that brake overrides the turn signal. Now, if we do the same thing, but we turn on our running lights, since that's our trigger for our relay, and turn on our left turn signal, you can see as we apply our brakes, that blinker continues to flash. That's going to keep us compliant with all state laws.Now, to install our brake light relay, we need to tap it into the stoplight switch wire that comes from our stoplight switch. more

Speaker 1: Today in our 2018 Jeep Cherokee, we're going to be installing SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251. The Stay-IN-Play DUO is going to be a braking system that permanently installs on your vehicle, so when you're pulling up behind your RV, it'll apply the brakes, making it feel like you're not hauling nearly as much of a load.It features a proportional braking system, so when you're sitting at a stoplight and you've got your foot on the brake, only the brakes on your RV are going to apply. There's an inertia switch located inside the control box that detects movement, so if you're traveling at any speed, it'll apply the brakes harder depending on that inertia.You're driving down the highway and you're about to get to your destination. You merge off, hit the brakes, and the brakes inside your vehicle apply using the cylinder attached to the pedal. You come to a stop and they stop.This is going to be a permanent installation, so your vehicle's always going to be ready to hook up to your RV and go to your next destination. Your control box will be mounted on the inside to easily switch the system off and on. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee, which we're going to be connecting to a 2017 Thor Tuscany, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the SMI Air Force One. This is a proportional supplemental braking system for motor homes with air brakes. Part number is SM99243. Now one of the biggest benefits I see to the Air Force One system, other than it being directly proportional, one of the most proportional systems on the market, is the easy in connection that we're going to have from our towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.You're simply going to have a breakaway switch cable. We can use the quick connect carabiner connect that directly to the cable on the switch. Then we'll bring it up and connect that to the RV. more

Today on our 2017 Jeep Cherokee we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Brake Light Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles, part number RM-88400. Now, there's several different reasons why you might need a brake light relay. For instance, one of the main reasons why is because our vehicle is going to override the signal coming from our RV. When we push on the brake pedal on our RV, it's not going to send the correct signal to our brake lights because our vehicle's overriding that. When we're not flat towing our Jeep and we're just driving like normal conditions, our electrical system along with our brake lights are not going to be affected at all. Now, there's two installation applications for the brake light relay. One for most vehicles with a key and normally opened brake pedal switch. more

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2016 Jeep Cherokee- Video
Today, on our 2016 Jeep Cherokee, we're going to show you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO. This is a proportional supplemental braking system, it's part number is SM99251. Now, one of the first steps is deciding where our operating unit is going to go. We want this to be away from major heat sources and we want it to be out of direct road spray. If it we're to be going behind a grill where water would be spraying up on it or in a fender well where water would be splashing on it, it's not the best location. What we're going to do with our Cherokee, we're going to mount this right to the top of the fuse panel box here. We're going to use some zip ties. We're going to use the outside edges for mounting so we're not messing up any of the writing inside. more

Now, here's what your Air Force One's going to look like once it's installed in your vehicle. It's a rather small unit, ties into your vacuum system on your engine and you have air from your coach. This is the air that goes to your air cylinder and your brake pedal. We have one power wire, and the two break away wires, going to be ultimately underneath your hood. more

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2015 Jeep Cherokee- Video
Today, on our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Edition, we will be installing our SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251. The way our SMI Stay-IN-Ply DUO system works, we've got it hooked up to the RV, we have put it in the on position. Now when you're driving 20 miles an hour or less, normal driving, normal braking, this will engage briefly. It'll kick our brakes on briefly to assist with stopping. Now you come across an intersection and you need to stop harder, somebody stops in front of you and you need to slam on your brakes, the system recognizes that, and it does more of our braking for our vehicle automatically, because it recognizes that you need to stop faster and stop harder. This also has a feature to where if you become unhooked from your RV, the breakaway that we have installed up front will engage if the towed vehicle comes off of the RV, or whatever you're towing with, until the pin is replaced. That way, we don't have a runaway vehicle if it does come undone from our RV for any reason. more

Today on our 2014 Jeep Cherokee, well be installing the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251. With the fascia off, we can go ahead and install the box. Well use the predrilled holes. Now with the box mounted, its secured and its holding the weight but to take out any movement with the bottom because we cant get the predrilled holes into anything solid, were just going to take some zip ties, thread them together so they are long enough and then use that to hold it tight to the back of the bumper. Here is your switch. It must be mounted in this orientation. more

Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Braking System Installation - 2014 Jeep Cherokee- Video
Today on this 2014 Jeep Cherokee, we're going to install part number RM-9400. This is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System. Our first step is to actually install a breakaway switch that comes with the kit. This is our breakaway switch right here. Now, our breakaway switch is going mount to this bracket right here which is previously installed on the vehicle just for this purpose. This bracket came with the base plate kit that was previously installed on the vehicle, so this is where our breakaway switch will mount right to that bracket in this location. more
